Bubble CPAP

It is a simple device to provide respiratory support to the newborn babies who require alveolar recruitment and oxygenation. The unit is equipped with an electronic oxygen blender for accurate FiO₂. The outflow is controlled through a flow meter. Unlike the conventional Bubble CPAP device, it incorporates a small inbuilt pump for supply of air. The pump is noiseless and can run continuously.

The mechanism involves

Generating air flow from the internal pump
Blending air and oxygen
Passing blended gas to humidifier
Delivering humidified gas to patient
Passing the exhaled gases from patient through a depth in water.
Adjusting the depth water level for the desired CPAP

The control unit comprising the blender and the air pump is very compact and mounted on a stand along with the humidifier and the CPAP adjusting water bottle.

Electronic blender for precise FiO₂

The control module consists of an electronic flow control device that regulates the flow of oxygen and air at the calculated ratio as to get the desired O₂ concentration. The increase/decrease press keys are provided to set the concentration shown in LED display. In the event of oxygen failure, the display will show ‘O.F’ and the output gas with 40% concentration will flow.

No external air source required

The built mini pump generates the required air flow of 12 LPM at 2 psi. The generated air flow is oil-free. Its design is for continuous running. The trouble of connecting bulky air compressor is thus done away with.

CPAP adjuster device

It is a water container fitted with a vertical tube which can be adjusted vertically. The top end of the tube is connected to the exit port of gas. The tube can be adjusted so as to fix its bottom end at the desired depth in water. The depth decides the level of CPAP. The tube is marked for the purpose.

An additional container is fixed at the side, to collect the water overflowing the main container. This avoids the wetting of floor.
