Mediflo
High Flow Nasal Oxygen (HFNO)
The MEDIFLO is a blending device to provide the much needed precise oxygen concentration while delivering the High Flow Nasal Oxygen (HFNO*) to patient. The blending is done pneumatically as set in the graduated dial knob. The concentration of oxygen can be set from 21 to 100%.
The output flow can be adjusted by the accompanied flowmeter. The available range is from 5 to 80 litres per minute.
Recent studies show HFNO works appreciably well on patients with hypoxic respiratory failure by reducing the anatomic dead space, enhancing the FRC and maintaining the desired FiO2. The need to intubate the patient was also found to be reduced.
Features
The outflow of the blended gas is passed through a flow meter and is controlled with a single Needle valve. Cumbersome adjustment with different flow controls has been avoided. The variation of flow has negligible effect on oxygen concentration. The flow can be adjusted from 5 to 80 litres per minute.
Air and oxygen at 30 to 80 psi may be supplied at the input of the device for blending. As it may not be practicable to maintain identical pressure at the input, it is designed to accept pressure difference up to 20 psi between the input gases.
If the input pressures of two gases vary beyond 20 psi, the device sounds an electronic buzzer. The buzzer is powered by an AC adapter provided along with.
The high flow is passed through a heated humidifier and delivered to patient through a High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), as illustrated in the accompanied drawing.
